Wall Flower

Does this have a name? This putting of porcelain on brackets? Some wonderful French bon mot that describes it wrying and succinctly?

My grandmother had a collection of dime store birds that were scattered about her living room, tchotchkes come to roost as if she had scattered glass bird seed on the tabletops. Why not give them higher perches and feather your nest with a flock of cocktails instead?

Only, if I were going to, you know, collect friends fowl or feted, I’d collect David Cleverly’s pottery instead.

Beasts abound and one could easily amass a barnyard’s worth (including and especially pups, which are on my mind as a local shelter has a new litter of Boxers.)

But I think I’d rather turn my wall of brackets into a trophy case of Cleverly’s clever take on historical figures.

Can’t you see them, formally displayed, giggling from behind their glaze?

They usually appear with those furred or feathered which doubles the appeal.

  1. Now this would be a fabulous collection…though I would probably put them on bookshelves! Love David's works of art.

  2. I'm not a big fan of figurines, but I must say that these of David's are very charming as well as being beautifully made. Wouldn't these be a fun collection for a child's room…up high of course.

  3. Just popped in to say Happy Solstice and to swoon over the phrase "as if she had scattered glass bird seed on the tabletops." I hope Magnaverde weighs in to tell us what that thingy is called that puts porcelain on brackets other than tall dusters.

  4. I love this take on Staffordshire–so tongue in cheek with super modeling. I could place animal paintings, sculptures, real ones in all rooms, making the spaces breathe. And do not get me started on monkeys. Thanks so much for a fun morning.

  5. This man's craft is marvelous! Thank you for introducing him to me!
Anywhere in KC to purchase them?

  6. Oh, that Paravicini Dining Room…
    Oh, that Paravicini Dining Room…
    Oh…..

  7. It would be fun to see the Cleverly on very serious brackets. Love "Queen Victoria reluctantly…" In French, they would be called consoles d'appliques or consoles murales, but I think you have found the catchy expression for the bracket+ornement
    with wallflowers.
