Romeo, Romeo

Who could resist quite so handsome a character as this, on bended knee or no? While I’m long past fair maidenhood and there’s not a balcony in sight, this new wallpaper by Martyn Lawrence Bullard for Schumacher makes me weak in the knees.  You can find Romeo, above, and the rest of the collection here.

Inspiration

After the boys left for school yesterday I sat at my desk pinning.  My computer is in front of a broad window with a southern exposure and despite the cold I lift the shade to let in the light in the morning.

As I sat still in my pajamas, clicking images and reading inspiring and pithy quotes, there was a ticker tape running through my head that said, “I should be doing something.  I should be editing.  I should do my homework.  I should take Rosie to the vet.  I should go get paint.”

But I couldn’t quite let go even to heat up my coffee and I realized that it is a sort of meditation.  Further, isn’t it fantastic that I can begin my day surrounded, in a way, with a community of people that I have curated? People who live creatively and shamelessly seek beauty?  Isn’t it fantastic that for twenty minutes I can enjoy the insights of people who share my interest in personal and pleasing spaces, who find joy in art, who want to take risks?

I wonder at people who spend their days with numbers and deals and screens filled with figures, though I know we need them, too.  But in an instant, yesterday, I was able to see that I was doing something.  I was wearing the track that I wanted my mind to follow that day, a day filled with gilt and color and light.

Long Time No See

Oh my goodness!  Hello! How are you?  It’s been forever.
Heavens, not all that busy really – I couldn’t even tell you what I’ve been doing. Running boys here and there, I suppose.
How ’bout you?  You look fantastic!
Hey, I did go in a pretty great shop on the Westside last weekend.  Yeah, just down from Westside Local.  Utilitarian Workshop.  All locally made.  Really cool.

I stopped in because KC Co., that leather company that I have such a humongous crush on, has product there.  I totally think that “dop kit” would be a terrific clutch.

You should go.  They’re open weekends, but you can find them on-line too.  We do need to catch up!  I’ll give you a call soon – swear!

Oh, my, but I have been distracted.  Should be back on a regular-ish basis.  Do hope you enjoyed your summer.

In Good Company

Clicking around somewhere a few months ago I stumbled on KC Co., this great little leather goods company here in town.  At the time I was looking for a spring watch band and I thought their unfinished products were pretty terrif.

I like their guy vibe as most of my clothes and some of my accessories could easily come from the men’s side of the aisle.

Though they like girls, too.

They show these great shots on facebook of the products after different stages of wear. The piece above is technically a dop kit, but I think it would make a fantastic clutch with plenty of room for keys, lipstick, phone and personality.  Imagine the mark your hand would make, dark and shiny where your thumb slid just next to the knot and the rest of your fingers curled around the back.  Heaven.

KC Co. here.
